McCoy grew up in the Midwest and moved to New York to attend New York University Law School. He is competitive in the courtroom. He has had several affairs with assistants, one of whom he married and then divorced. He has a daughter. He spends his spare time on his motorcycle.

ADA Carmichael came to homicide prosecution from narcotics prosecution. She is stubborn and reserved. She is very serious about her work and has a lot of integrity. Carmichael and McCoy clash often.
